Trip to Yellow Springs
Norah's House
Norah’s homemade brunch is delicious.
I got the chance to travel to Yellow Springs with Professor Reno and a couple of my classmates. I was unaware what to expect. We were walking the streets of Yellow Springs searching for Norah’s House. Norah only serves brunch until 11am and I was very anxious to eat. Assuming we were going to a normal restaurant at first, I was looking for a sign and then all of the sudden we approached this house and walked right in. This was no ordinary restaurant, but just a normal household. We were lucky enough to have known about Norah’s because her food was amazing.
When we arrived and walked in, we went to find a table in the first room. Two tables were already full but luckily there was a table for the six of us. I felt like such a newbie. I was fixated on the scenery around me and I starred at all the paintings on the walls, artifacts and bookshelf. It was a cozy homey feeling there. There was very dim lighting and on our table was a little candle. One lady from another table approached us knowing from our looks we had never been there. She started explaining that we could either eat at the buffet set up in the next room or order from the menu. At the buffet there were fruit, muffins and some kind of bean breakfast lasagna. I only took fruit from the buffet that included grapes, strawberries, pineapple, raspberries and blueberries. I love fruit! Norah’s fresh cut and placed fruit was what I needed to start my day.
While enjoying my delicious fruit our waiter arose at our table to take any orders. Some of my classmates and my professor ate from the buffet, but me, I ordered scrambled eggs, hash browns and bacon. It was not long before I got my food. The eggs were very good and cooked just how I like them. The hash browns took up half my plate. They gave me a lot and I was not complaining. Those were the best hash browns I have ever eaten. I am also a bacon lover and Norah made her bacon perfectly. Not to crispy but not too soggy and flimsy. Though my food was very tasty, I do regret not trying the lasagna. Everyone at our table could not stop talking about how good it was and they kept going back for seconds. As said before Norah’s is no original restaurant. She does not technically charge you, but in the kitchen, placed on a table was a tip jar. You can tip Norah as well or as poorly as you want. I loved her food so much I gave her a twenty-dollar bill.
Norah’s may not be a normal restaurant, but she knows the right way to serve people. Discovering the location of Norah’s house gave me a new place to enjoy a comfortable homemade brunch.
