Salmon Tacos
When I think of food I think of the social aspect of it. Food brings me closer to my friends, but especially my family.
Eating is very important to me and should be for those around me. I love eating. I have met all my friends in the past not only through athletics or classes but lunchtime, my favorite part of the day. Meeting people is fine but when there is food it makes greetings so much better. My friends and I do not always agree on the same foods but that evolves conversation about trying new things or even convincing to one another what is so great about the food product.
One of my best friends is a pescatarian, a vegetarian that eats fish. She has not been a pescatarian for very long. I want to say five months, and I fully support her. I know it was a hard transition for her because she did like meat a lot, but one day she watched this video during class that swayed her away from eating meat. One day, this past summer, she had me over for dinner. She never warned me what was being prepared for dinner that made me a little nervous because I am a picky eater sometimes. When we arrived at her house she then told me we were having salmon tacos. SALMON TACOS! I had never heard of such a thing but was kind of interested. We sat down and began to eat. She offered me some easy mac in case I did not like the tacos, but in fact I loved them! I was excited because I felt closer to my friend by loving her favorite meal. That night I discovered one of my favorite meals.
Though I love my friends, family means the world to me. Food reunites my family. As a family we have many gatherings whether it be a major holiday like Easter, Thanksgiving, Christmas or holidays like Mother’s Day, Father’s Day and all the cousins birthdays; even big sports games because that’s just how my family is. We have a large family so it’s great. Celebrations are always held at my grandma’s, g-ma’s house. She enjoys having everyone together as does everyone else. She always has great “munchies” laid out on a table consisting of fruits, strawberries, grapes, pineapple, watermelon, cheese and crackers, chips and salsa, etc. She even lays out pickles by themselves because our family LOVES pickles. These gatherings bring us together when we haven’t seen each other in a while. We always get some good laughs and stories out from the “Coomer Clan” gatherings.
All in all, food plays an important role in my life. Without food I honestly do not think I would be as close to my friends and family as I am now.
